Viñales Valley Nature Excursion, River Boat Ride, Prehistoric Mural, Tabaco Plantations & Horse Riding.

Pick up from meeting points and accommodations starts at 7:30 am as we begin our trip to Viñales Valley, west from Havana, for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Before we arrive, a few stops are due for sightseeing and refreshments. Once in Viñales, the first activity is the exploration of Indio Cave system, where we embark in a boat ride for approximately 30 minutes through the river that runs through the cave. It is a fascinating nature scene that travelers love. After that we continue exploring the Valley as we approach the Prehistoric Mural, a beautiful paint that was done at one of Viñales famous hummocks. After that, guests continue with a visitation to a farm where a delicious lunch is prepared utilizing local fresh products from the area. After lunch, we continue our activities with a visitation to a tabaco plantation where a detailed explanation about cultivation and management of tabaco plantations as well as the production of cigars is given, followed by a horse ride through more of the Valley, guided by local farmers. Return to Havana is schedule for 3:30 pm.

Highlights

  • Viñales Valley: It is located in the province of Pinar del Río, the westernmost area of Cuba in the Guaniguanico Mountain Range. This Valley and a large part of the mountains that surrounding it, were added to the Nature Reserve National Park System in Cuba in 1999, and in December of that same year, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, on the Cultural Landscape category. The Valley is famous for its hummocks and for the tabaco leaves plantations. It is among the most visited places in Cuba by foreigners.
  • Prehistoric Mural: It was created in 1959 by the painter and scientist Leovigildo González (a disciple of the Mexican muralist Diego Rivera) with the help of more than twenty peasants who volunteered for the risky task, attached by parachute straps to climb to the top.
  • Cuban Cigars o Habanos: All tobaccos or cigars that contain 100% tobacco leaves that were cultivated and manufactured in Cuba. Habanos are the most famous cigars in the world. Although Valle de Viñales is not the only in Cuba where tabaco plants are grown, is certainly the most worldwide recognize area to find such plantations.
